It doesn’t take much, in terms of utilizing piano studio equipment, to be an awesome teacher. But there are many wonderful resources and tools today that can be utilized by piano teachers. Depending on your studio space and financial ability, consider adding some (or all) of these items into your piano studio. (And for teachers who travel, you can still incorporate some of these items into your list. If you can carry it, you can take it and use it!):
- A good working, well tuned acoustic piano
- Metronome
- Pencils
- Stickers
- Student rewards
- Additional practical items such as tissues, hand sanitizer, nail clippers and nail files, etc.
- A teacher binder (to keep lesson plans, student materials, notes and reminders, pencils, etc for the teacher)
- Computer (to use for ear-training, notating music, watching videos, etc)
- Computer programs/software (music games, music notation software, ear training programs, etc)
- An electronic keyboard with headsets (students who arrive early can warm up before lessons, for composing music, 2-piano duet practice, playing along with CD or MIDI accompaniments, etc)
- Audio system (with or without bluetooth capabilities, for playing professional recordings for students, or audio-recording students during the lessons or during a recital, etc)
- Recording devices, video and audio (to be used in lessons, for recitals, in workshops, etc. This can be used to provide visual and audio feedback to the student, or given as mementos from recitals or other special activities).
- Visual aid supports, such as:
- Music Dictionaries and other resource books
- Magnetic Note boards
- Grand staff white boards or chalk boards
- Flashcards
- Board games
- Worksheets or other activities
- Manuscript paper
